TOMB RAIDER (2001) heroine and fighting machine LARA CROFT is inspiring thousands of women to take up martial arts. The computer game character - turned film star, played by ANGELINA JOLIE - has spurred young and middle-aged females to learn kick-boxing.

Thousands of ladies are now taking up the sport, intent on mimicking the English educated, martial arts character who saves the world. TOMMY MCCARTHY, president of the UK KICK BOXING ASSOCIATION says,

"More and more girls are getting involved and all shapes and sizes are represented. Over the last six weeks while the Lara Croft promotion has been going on, numbers of females enroling have doubled all over the country. The response has been amazing! And it's not just young girls we have everyone from career women to women in their 50s."

" Demand is now so high that some gym owners are turning girls away! Lara Croft is an inspiration, a figurehead to a new generation; She is helping them discover martial arts and is giving young girls an opportunity to try something new. " (JD&HM/WN/IG)
