PAUL REUBENS is to revitalise his hit 1980s comic movie character PEE-WEE HERMAN - but his loveable clown is set to become a monster.

Herman was an unlikely high-pitched, suit-wearing, bicycle-riding hero in films like Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985), but Reubens is now keen to show his character's dark side. He says, "It's a kind of grown-up movie about Pee-wee becoming a famous pop singer and being brought out to Hollywood to make movies. "Fame doesn't agree with him and he turns into kind of a monster." (KL/EW/MCM)
