Steven Soderbergh Keeps An Eye On George Clooney

Oscar-winning director STEVEN SODERBERGH is keeping a careful eye on his OCEAN'S 11 (2001) leading man GEORGE CLOONEY after having fallen prey to his practical jokes in the past.

The ERIN BROCKOVICH (2000) director, who directed Clooney in OUT OF SIGHT (1998) says he tried to beat the cheeky star to the first practical joke by arranging for 300 of the crew to come to work with T-shirts that read "Sexiest Man Alive" the day after Clooney was voted the Sexiest Man Alive by American magazine PEOPLE.

But Soderbergh soon found the tables turned when he found the wallet of his producer lying on the road a few weeks later and handed it to Clooney to return to him. When Soderberg asked if the wallet had been returned, he was met with blank stares.

Soderbergh explains, "Somehow George had orchestrated, and gotten me convinced, that not only had DWIGHT not gotten his wallet, but that he had somehow misplaced it. "The bottom line was, I mobilised like half the crew to tear the set apart looking for Dwight's wallet, and this went on for three hours while we were trying to shoot. "Finally Dwight walked up and said, 'You know, I've had my wallet the whole time. This was all orchestrated to make you look like an idiot." (LE/TM/RP)
