Kidman And McGregor At The Cannes Film Festival


NICOLE KIDMAN and EWAN McGREGOR's latest film, MOULIN ROUGE (2001), will open the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL in May (01).

The film will receive its world premiere at the prestigious event and the actors are expected to be present for this event. Moulin Rouge (2001) tells the story of SATIN, a dancer, played by Nicole Kidman, who falls in love with CHRISTIAN, a young poor poet played by Ewan McGregor.

This musical film has been directed by Australian film director, BAZ LUHRMANN, who directed ROMEO + JULIET (1996) in 1994. Baz Luhrmann is very proud that his film has been chosen to open the festival, and says, "I found it very grateful that a film financed by the Americans, created in Australia and that is about the French history and culture, has been so well received to open the Cannes Festival."

The film will be in competition for the Gold Palm.(VH/AFP/PDD)
