Ridley Scott: I Owe It All to Mum

GLADIATOR director RIDLEY SCOTT dedicated his ORANGE AUDIENCE AWARD to his mum, ELIZABETH JANE SCOTT, who died recently (FEB01) aged 96.

The award was voted for by the public at the BAFTA ceremony. In his acceptance speech on stage in London's ODEON LEICESTER SQUARE yesterday (25 FEB01), Scott forgot to mention the cast of the Roman epic. Scott did, however, try to make up for his gaffe at the press conference by joking 'They'll get me later' before admitting that he is never confident about winning awards.

Scott said, "I never count my chickens. I was brought up that way. As a director, I sometimes feel like a conductor. The cast or the crew are virtuoso." (PDD/WNWR&WNWCCB/KW)
