Spanish actress PENELOPE CRUZ has defied her culture and called for a stop to the famous running of the bulls fiesta in Pamplona, Spain.

The WOMAN ON TOP star, who has been linked to love-split actor TOM CRUISE, has allowed PEOPLE FOR THE ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS (PETA) to use her name in their campaign to stop the cruel festivities. The beautiful star, soon to be seen in CAPTAIN CORELLI'S MANDOLIN with NICHOLAS CAGE, wants the annual July festival, which attracts thousands of tourists, to be cancelled.

Her signature appears on a letter sent to Pamplona mayoress YOLANDA BARCINA, which says, "I respectfully urge you to cancel the annual running of the bulls and use humane ways to attract tourists to beautiful, historic Pamplona." (ES/WNTRE/CPT)
