Recreating The Drive-In--At Home

Two new DVD collections, Elite Entertainment's Drive-In Disc and Something Weird Video's Drive-In Double Feature are seeking to recreate the experience of attending a drive-in movie theater in the 1950s, including snack-bar promos and advice about "the love bug." Today's (Wednesday) Los Angeles Times observes that Elite's DVD offers an optional sound track called "Distorto" that reproduces the distorted sounds associated with the metal speakers that drive-in patrons used to hang in their cars. In addition, the Times notes, the track includes such ambient noises as crickets chirping, car doors slamming, and tires whirring on gravel.
