CNN Transfers Veteran Correspondent From Washington To L.A

Bob Franken, who has covered Washington politics for CNN and until last year was its congressional correspondent, has expressed surprise at the news channel's decision to transfer him to its bureau in Los Angeles. In an interview with USA Today, Franken said that he was ambivalent about making the move but suggested that he was happy to be holding a job. "The people who are really hurting are the ones who got laid off in Tuesday's round of firings." More than two-thirds of the Los Angeles bureau were laid off. "They have a need out there, and they think I may be able to help them," Franken said. "I'm going to do my damnedest to own the West coast."
