Will Soderbergh Cancel Himself Out ?

Instead of nominating him once for his work in two films, the Directors Guild of America placed Steven Soderbergh's name twice on its list of five nominees for its annual DGA Award -- first for Traffic and second for Erin Brockovich.

By doing so, many writers commented later, Soderbergh appeared certain not to receive an award for either. Also on the list was Cameron Crowe for his critically praised but publicly ignored Almost Famous. Ridley Scott, whose Gladiator won the Golden Globe award Sunday for best picture, also made the DGA list as did Ang Lee, who took the Golden Globe trophy for best director for his Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
