Enemy At The Gates To Open Berlin Film Fest

Jean-Jacques Annaud's Enemy at the Gates, a World War II epic chronicling the German army's doomed attack on Stalingrad (now Volgagrad) in 1942, has been selected to open the Berlin International film Festival on February 7. Battle scenes for the film, employing thousands of extras, were filmed near Berlin at the Potsdam-Babelsberg studios last January.

In the actual war battle, the Germans suffered more than a quarter of a million casualties. Another 112,000 men were captured. The Paramount film stars Joseph Fiennes, Jude Law, Rachel Weisz and Ed Harris.
