James Marsden to Star in 'Sonic the Hedgehog' Movie.

James Marsden will star in Paramount's live-action/animation hybrid movie "Sonic the Hedgehog", an adaptation of the classic video game.

A film based on Sega's speedy blue mascot, the star of any number of video games and more than one cartoon, has been in the works for a while now. Fast & Furious producer Neal Moritz is spearheading the effort, with Paramount the latest studio to nab the rights. Deadpool director Tim Miller is an executive producer, and his Blur Studios colleague Jeff Fowler is directing.

The studio landed the film rights to the classic game in 2017 and tapped Jeff Fowler to direct.

Sega launched the Sonic game in 1991 and has sold more than 360 million copies to date, including both packaged and digital games on consoles, tablets, and mobile.
