Set amidst the French film industry during WW II, focuss on an assistant director with a wife and child to support; and a philandering screenwriter - and their varying strategies of resistance and accommodation to the Occupation. The film is based on the actual war time experiences of assistant director/resistance partisan Jean Devairvre and screenwriter and future Tavernier collaborator Jean Aurenche. Tavernier is best known in the U.S. for COUP DE TORCHON (written by Aurenche), 'ROUND MIDNIGHT and SUNDAY IN THE COUNTRY.
