Lucía is a waitress in madrid who has been living with her boyfriend lorenzo (ulloa), a writer, for many years. After learning that he has been involved in a terrible accident, she flees to a remote island in hopes that the sun will bleach the pain of his death from her soul and give her time to learn to deal with her terrible loneliness. The island provides not only solace but unexpected glimpses into the final months of her partner's life. Medem shot sex and lucia entirely on high definition digital video in order to achieve certain colours, and most importantly, to capture the intimacy and sexual images that the film requires.
