Pale Rider (1985) - Details

Pale Rider

Led by Hull Barrett (Michael Moriarty), placer miners - or "Tin Pans" as the hydraulic gold miner Coy LaHood (Richard Dysart) calls them - have settled in a valley LaHood wants for his corporate operation. When he sends men to harass and intimidate the independents into leaving the valley, they kill Megan Wheeler's little dog in the process. As she buries her pet, she prays for both protection and revenge. The following day - as she reads from the Bible, Revelations 6: 8, "And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him" - a mysterious stranger appears ... riding a pale horse. The newcomer, known only as Preacher, offers the settlers some hope, but LaHood is desperate to mine the valley. Soon, the miners and the hauntingly mysterious Preacher are facing LaHood, his vicious son Josh (Chris Penn), and the gun-for-hire that calls himself a marshal, Stockburn (John Russell) in a showdown that will settle both the current conflict and some old scores.
