cats and dogs - synopsis header

Since the beginning of time, a war for control of planet Earth has been fought between two worthy adversaries. It is a war so secret, so covert that it could be happening in your very own living room!

Unbeknownst to humans, the struggle for world domination between cats and dogs has been held in check by an uneasy truce. But that period of peace is about to disintegrate.

A power-mad Persian cat, Mr. Tinkles, has broken from the fray to lead a massive feline movement against man's best friend. The crack canine agents, who have been protecting the entire human race, are in trouble. One of their top field dogs has been put out of commission and they have been forced to employ the use of a rookie Beagle puppy agent named Lou.

As the maniacal Mr. Tinkles and his army of highly trained soldiers begin a mass mobilization, the fate of humankind rests in the paws of a young pup that has yet to prove himself in battle. With mercenaries, assassins and secret agents running amok, will puppy love and ingenuity be enough to save the world?

This isn't cute. This isn't cuddly. This is war!

The live-action cast features JEFF GOLDBLUM as Professor Brody, whose work to find a cure for people who are allergic to dogs prompts Mr. Tinkles to designate the Brody home as ground zero for his global battle plan. ELIZABETH PERKINS stars as Mrs. Brody and ALEXANDER POLLOCK as their son, Scott.

The voice cast features acclaimed actors TOBEY MAGUIRE as the loyal and heroic beagle puppy Lou; ALEC BALDWIN as Butch, the dependable shepherd and operative for the canine cause; SEAN HAYES as Mr. Tinkles; SUSAN SARAnDON as Ivy, a wise and mysterious Saluki hound who watches over young Lou; JOE PANTOLIANO as Peek, a small Chinese hairless who just happens to be an electronics expert; MICHAEL CLARKE DUNCAN as the friendly sheepdog Sam; JON LOVITZ as Mr. Tinkles' lieutenant, Calico; and CHARLTON HESTON as the Mastiff, a higher-up in the Dog Command.

Using a combination of live action plus cutting-edge technology including sophisticated puppetry and computer animation, Warner Bros. Pictures brings the ancient and secret rivalry between cats and dogs to the screen for the first time in the comedy "Cats & Dogs" -- complete with heroes, assassins, double agents, high-tech gadgets and, of course, a plot to take over the world!
