Not every gift is a blessing. Shocked at the reappearance of a dead ex-patient, child psychologist Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) discovers a connection between his previous experiences and a new patient - an eight year old, Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment), who is able to communicate with spirits of the dead.
