Priest : Movie Review

Priest could never live up to its geek cool promise. The idea is just too rife with cinematic contradictions and complexities to really work. So director Scott Stewart deserves some credit - albeit slight - for finding something worth salvaging in this otherwise incoherent comic book mess. Adapted from a famed Korean manhwa and probably a thousand times more potent in pen and ink form, this unhinged combination of Catholicism, Blade Runner, Sergio Leone, and Van Helsing has potential. Lots of potential. Unfortunately, this is a film that frequently forgoes its considerable strengths for more of the same old genre junk food, and suffers mightily as a result.
