Big Fat Liar : Movie Review

Big Fat Liar (2002) - headingSome kid movies rehash old plotlines and cliché jokes, but are harmlessly entertaining. Some kid movies reuse old ploys, but are so obnoxious and arrogant in their delivery that you can’t watch them. Big Fat Liar is the latter category.

Frankie Muniz plays Jason, the kid whose school paper falls into the hands of a big Hollywood producer (Paul Giamatti), who steals the idea for his next picture. Jason and his friend (Amanda Bynes) fly to Hollywood to find the producer and make him confess. "Hilarious" hijinks ensue. Except that there is nothing hilarious about this movie. Even the old tried and true chase scene across different movie sets lacks heart. The characters are so smug, that nothing they do seems appealing. The teenage leads read affected lines and mug it up to no end. Their impersonations and witticisms are supposed to be funny, but they’re more like nails on a chalkboard.
